Late Post of previous 8 days

US History
Oct 2-Unit 2 is a New Nation to Two Nations. We began by looking at the Whiskey Rebellion and how America had grown from Shay's rebellion. We had a reading on this. We are looking initially at the issues America as a new Nation had to wrestle with
Oct 3-alien and sedition was one of the first big tests for America as a new nation. We had a reading on it and classrwork attached to yesterday but America passed a law that arguably violated people's right to free speach. Virginia and Kentucky decided they didn't want to follow it.
Oct 4-We looked at two more issues/action of America. Marbury vs Madison established Judicial Review in America. The work that was done in the notebook and turned in was 5 questions on page 118-119 in the book. America also doubled their land with the Louisiana Purchase, even though some people were not a big fan of the deal(also a reading)
Oct 5-We took notes today as well as finished the Marbury vs Madison assingment. Also students had notes and a quickwrite on the Monroe Doctrine and the War of 1812
Oct 6-Students were looking at how the Trail of Tears showed what can happen if the executive branch doesn't listen to or follow the judicial branch. It is also the tragic story of the Native Americans being forced off their land
Oct 9-We looked today at Manifest Destiny. We had a quickwrite as well on it. We watched a video clip about groups moving west. It starts on 16:30. Also students had a journal entry on people who moved to California, Texas and Utah. You can ask me for the Slide

Oct 10-Today we finished the issues America as a new nation went through by looking at the Mexican American War and how America increased in size. Students finished yesterday's assignment and we finished class by looking at how the Cotton Gin increased the desire for more slaves in the South. We are now focusing on what will lead to the Civil War
Oct 11-Sub day-Students looked at what caused the Civil War and had a quickwrite: What compromises happened leading to the Civil War and what were each of them about. Missouri Compromise, Tariffs, 1850. Then they looked at the Nullification Crisis a little more in depth. The main idea is that slavery was not the only reason for the Civil War
Oct 12-Students worked on a google classroom assignment on what caused the Civil War. If you log in to google classroom you will see it. Open the google doc that has your answers and then follow each link. If you haven't gotten into the classroom yet ask me for the link.

Government
Oct 2-We played the game from last friday but this time we looked at it from a Civil Rights aspect. At times lines in districts have been drawn to try to eliminate certain people groups from having fair representation in Congress. Champions were given extra credit.
Oct 3-After reviewing the game we looked at the difference between the two houses. We had a quickwrite on why the senate is so much more prestigious than the house and students looked in the book at comparing them
Oct 4-We looked at the ways congress members vote. They can be partisan, Trustee's or Delegates. In reality they are the 4th option politico's which are a combination of all 3. After notes students took up certain issues while playing the role of a Republican or Democrat from California or Texas. For each of the issues would they be partisan, a Trustee or a Delegate.
Oct 5-We looked in class at the difference between strict and loose construction and how Congress can use implied powers to go beyond what was possibly first intended. We looked at 3 course cases that all used the commerce clause and how a strict or loose interpretation was used. Wickard vs Filburn and Lighthouses were loose, but Gun-Free School Zones Act was strict.
Oct 6-Students had a quickwrite on taxation and how America taxes. The last part of class was a book assignment on Congress role on financial things. (taxing, commerce, borrowing)
Oct 9-We started class by looking at friday's work on taxation and Congress role in that, as well as defecit spending. The second part of class students looked at other jobs of Congress like impeachments, and amendments.
Oct 10-We took some notes on committees in Congress, and looked at some examples of them. We also briefly reviewed impeachment and had a quick write on the question of Donald Trump being impeached
Oct 11-Students had a sub and were looking at the process for creating a bill in America, students were supposed to come up with a visual that showed the process.(This didn't get finished because of Jostens coming in and short day)
Oct 12-I talked a little about how a vote passes in the House and Senate but most of the time was spent finishing yesterday's work on a bill becoming a law
