Update Tuesday 9/19-9/27

Sorry I was very sick and have been in and out of school. Thus this fell behind. Please follow up with me for any missing assignments. This is just a quick run down of what was done.
US
9/19-Today we looked at Shay's rebellion and how it led to the Articles of Confederation slowly crumbling. The people realized for safety sake it may be in their best interest to consider a new form of government for America that could be a little stronger. We also took quiz on Unit 1
9/20-In class students began looking at the Constitutional issues America was wrestling with. These issues included representation in Congress and slavery. Each student was a state and had to represent the state at the Convention
9/21-Students had a sub, they finished their state Constitution work and finished class by describing how the Constitution and it's 7 articles are set up.
9/22-In class we reviewed the work from yesterday with the sub. The main focus on the class is the New Jersey and Virginia Plan and how the arguments at the Constitutional convention leads America to having 2 houses in Congress. One for population and one for equality.
9/25-Students had a sub. They had an assignment on Federalist and Anti-Federalists and the Bill of Rights
9/26-Today we reviewed from the sub day. (Period 2 played catch up). We reviewed mainly the anti-federalists as well as separation of powers and Montesquieu and how our government is set up.
9/27-In class we went over the Bill of Rights and why it was put in place. It was the one thing the anti-federalist got as essentially a thank you for ratifying the new Constitution. The Bill of Rights is really just the first 10 changes or amendments to the Constitution.
Coming up-There is our first test on Unit 1 tomorrow!!!

Government
9/19-Students presented court cases from amendments 1-5 and we went over them in class. We talked about how court cases are often time decided by just one or 2 judges who can swing a decision on a case.
9/20-Students presented from amendment 6-10 and we discussed them in class.
9/21-Sub day-Students looked at other ways the Constitution can be changed besides just amendments. There are multiple methods including Presedential Action and tradition.
9/22-Today we took our first unit test on an Intro to Government
9/25-Students looked at the powers of government. What roles the states have and which the government has. Also how the government has expressed, implied and inherent roles
9/26-We reviewed a little of yesterday with our 4th quickwrite on expressed implied and inherent roles. Students spent the last 1/2 of class putting together their first notebook that was due either today or tomorrow.
9/27-We took notes in class on states and how they interact with the federal government. Also how they can become a state. This was from section 4.2

Wednesday 9/6

US-We began discussing what the term "The American Dream" means. It is a term that can be used to describe many different things. Some people view making it to America and it's freedom as the dream. To others it is rising out of poverty to achieve greatness. For some it is simply a two story home, a family of 4 and a white picket fence. The American Dream is all things to all people, which makes it unique. No other countries have this sort of calling. In the class each student had to focus on what the American Dream means to them. Each class has a google classroom. To do the assignment ask me what your class code is. Go on Google Classroom to do the assignment on a slide.

Gov-We reviewed the states. Most groups didn't do a great job so we talked about the main topics and what each meant. I also went over the parts of American democracy working. For homework students had to write a paragraph on the negatives of democracy.

Monday, September 4, 2017

Government: We discussed yesterday's homework. After that students added onto their notes of a social contract and how it plays a role in having too much freedom. At the end of class students began starting their own government country.

Thursday 8/30

Sorry for the delayed post. I couldn't get the internet to work. For US history today we discussed yesterday's reading of why history. We then watched the end of Saving Private Ryan and answered the following question:
uThe Character Tom Hanks is playing, says as he dies to Matt Damon’s character(Private Ryan), “earn it.” In the final scene Damon recalls this line at the cemetery and how he feels he earned it during his life. How can this one phrase by a soldier in WWII(a fictional story) describe in your own life why history is important?
uPlease give me about a paragraph on what you think this line means and how it reflects why we look at history and how you have been given an opportunity to be here.

Government: In Gov we were looking at Chapter 1 section 1. We were looking at the preamble to the constitution and how it gives a framework for why we have government. Students had to define the 6 things and then rank them in importance in their option.
