Wednesday 8/30

US-In class we looked at why we study history. The main idea we tried to cover today was sourcing and how fake news has created a culture in America where without skills we often times take things that are fake and believe them. We also began the reading why history by David McCullough. Essay Students underlined and listed reasons he gives for its importance

Government-Today we looked at the results of the survey and how so many issues are so closely divided. It is difficult when you are running a country and everyone see things differently. You can never please everyone and so it is difficult to determine the best course of action often times. We finished class by looking at Government and State. They are two key words to this first unit.

Tuesday

US history-we looked at the american citizenship test. I talked about the difference between knowing content and comprehending history. The idea we want to focus on is not just learning facts and "content" but being able to comprehend how it connects to history. In an example I said it is nice to know the first amendment, but we would like to know how the first amendment applies in certain events. What are the limits of it? Who should decide how free, freedom of speech should be?

Gov-We took a survey to determine where students stand on the spectrum of conservative and liberal beliefs. We will look at the results later.
